THE 26TH ANNUAL EDITION OF DAYS OF EUROPEAN FILM

Prague, 4 – 11 April  

Days of European Film have been offering the most interesting films of contemporary European cinema for 26 years. This year, the festival invites the audience to cinemas to watch 45 films from various parts of Europe. The films, divided into traditional as well as completely new programme sections, cover the themes of ordinary life: sports, Nature, eroticism and love, music, and freedom of choice. With their festival programming, DEF want to be more accommodating to the audience. The festival will include seminars for cinema operators, film screenings for children and seniors, debates and special guests. But, above all, DEF invite the audience to see high-quality European films!

December 1897, Paris. Edmond Rostand is not yet thirty but already two children and a lot of anxieties. He has not written anything for two years. In desperation, he offers the great Constant Coquelin a new play, a heroic comedy, in verse, for the holidays. Only concern: it is not written yet. Ignoring the whims of actresses, the demands of his Corsican producers, the jealousy of his wife, the stories of his best friend's heart and the lack of enthusiasm of all those around him, Edmond starts writing this piece which nobody believes. For now, he has only the title: "Cyrano de Bergerac". Show more

Journalists have not been allowed inside, they will learn of the decision the following day. Which of course makes them all the more curious today. The newsrooms of Czech Television and Hospodářské Noviny have been paying heightened attention to the whole affair since morning. We watch as two teams of news editors and reporters create their own “breaking news” on the same event in the space of a single day. Though two doing the same thing doesn’t always guarantee the same results.
