The cult Slovenian band Laibach is known for its fascination with totality, particularly the Nazi aesthetics that have greatly influenced the form and content of their performances. Communists and liberals considered the musicians to be provocateurs who ridiculed totalitarian regimes. However, in 2015 North Korea invited the band to play at that year’s celebration of the country’s liberation from Japanese rule in 1945. This documentary musical presents the absurd drama surrounding the preparations for the concert, including misunderstandings resulting from cultural differences, constant control, and the adamant demands of censors. And while the atmosphere on the South Korean border thickens, the concert begins.
