Between 1982 and 1990, a silent genocide took place in the African country of Chad. The murder of 40,000 people by the regime of dictator Hissène Habré went almost unnoticed by the international community. Renowned Chadian director Mahamat-Saleh Haroun, winner of the Palme d'Or at Cannes, follows former prisoner Clément Abaïfouta, who along with others contributed to bringing the tyrant to justice. Now deep wounds are reopened as the victims confront the perpetrators. The frightening stories of the survivors are material evidence as well as a path to reconciliation. Although in 2016 Habré was sentenced to life imprisonment for torture and mass murder, his former prisoners must learn to live alongside those who carried out the dictator's orders.
