Vote for Change!

Director: Lise Birk Pedersen

The Five Star Movement in Italy (Movimento 5 Stelle) became a sensation during the parliamentary elections in 2013, when it won a quarter of all votes and finished just behind the victorious Democratic Party. The movement was founded by popular comedian Beppe Grillo, and its guiding principle is direct democracy implemented through Internet voting and refusal to cooperate with the traditional parties. The film follows several elected representatives of the movement, who must contend with the political reality in parliament. For many, the initial enthusiasm dissipates into scepticism when the movement finds itself a prisoner of its own principles. The project, which was meant to strengthen democratic elements in Italian politics, is dangerously mutating into an authoritatively controlled party of a single man.
