A young male prostitute dreams of exotic, amorous adventures. His imagination takes us all over the world and into the most arousing erotic fantasies. He becomes a Roman emperor’s slave, a member of a Sultan’s harem, and an incarnation of an angel.... This legendary film poem by photographer James Bidgood is one of the quintessential pillars of world queer cinema. The film was shot on 8mm film, and its creation took almost seven years under very humble conditions, directly in the director's apartment in New York. The leading roles were played by actual New York prostitutes. The avant-garde film established its iconic status only after some time, being completed ignored by the public upon its premiere. The director himself refused to connect his name to the film, with the final credits listing him as Anonymous. People therefore speculated for many years whether it might be a secret work by Andy Warhol or Kenneth Anger.
