A gripping thriller that chronicles the responsible and controversial decisions Golda Meir - also known as the "Iron Lady of Israel" - had to face during the 1973 Yom Kippur War.

On 6 October 1973, under cover of darkness, on Israel's biggest holiday and during the month of Ramadan, the combined armies of Egypt, Syria and Jordan launched a surprise attack on the Sinai Peninsula and the Golan Heights. Golda Meir, the only female prime minister in Israel's history, is up against the odds, facing an imminent, obvious and omnipresent danger, a ticking time bomb that she hoped she would never have to face. Overwhelmed, paralyzed and frustrated by the strife in her all-male cabinet, with little hope of rescue, this single woman finds herself in a race against time to save a million lives on both sides of the conflict. The almost unrecognizable Helen Mirren embodies one of the most iconic and influential political leaders of the twentieth century, previously portrayed on television by Ingrid Bergman and on the stage by Anne Bancroft. Golda Meir found herself at the centre of dramatic geopolitical events and in the crucial arena of high diplomacy, at a moment that could have been fatal for her country, as a woman surrounded by all men - Generals Dayan, Elazar, Sharon and also Henry Kissinger.
