Lokita tries to convince the authorities that she has tracked down and recognised her brother Tori, eight years her junior, in a West African orphanage - even though she last saw him as an infant. Her fears are justified. She is not a credible witness. And indeed, Tori is not her blood relative; they only met on a grueling odyssey across Europe. But their strong bond is not just a matter of circumstance. In a hostile and dangerous environment, they find love and support in each other. Temporarily housed in a state-run center, they work side by side at night in an Italian restaurant, serving as drug runners for its chef. The Dardenne brothers consistently work at such a high level (Two Days, One Night; Unknown Girl) that we tend to take their films for granted. But that would be a mistake. At a time when much of cinema is dominated by fantasy escapes from reality to power and strength, the Dardenne brothers base their films on social realism and empathy for the weak and vulnerable. Their latest film will stretch you to the breaking point and get your heart racing.
