Mistr propagandy

Scenario: Joachim A. Lang  •  Director: Joachim A. Lang  •  Camera: Klaus Fuxjäger  •  Music: Michael Klaukien  •  Cast: Robert Stadlober, Fritz Karl, Franziska Weisz, Sascha Göpel, Katia Fellin, Raphaela Möst, Emanuel Fellmer, Sebastian Thiers, Moritz Führmann a další

In 1938, Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels is at the height of his power and the popularity of Hitler's policies reaches unprecedented heights. The dictator is now moving decisively towards certain war. Goebbels becomes the main instigator of the anti-Jewish pogrom and produces the first anti-Semitic propaganda films, Jew Süß and The Eternal Jew. The film is the story of the greatest manipulator of all time, a man who managed to mobilize the masses and shape public opinion to justify the brutal acts of World War II and the genocide of millions of people. How easily can the media be used to spread misinformation and control the masses, and what can be taken from this for future generations and contemporary society?

Director's word: Some 80 years ago, the greatest crimes in human history took place: the Holocaust and World War II. 60 million people perished during it, including six million murdered Jews. Today, the manipulation strategies of the perpetrators of these crimes serve as a model for populists who trample on human rights and democracy all over the world. The reminder of these archetypes of populism - Hitler, Goebbels and the Nazi leaders - provides a cautionary tale of what can happen and how quickly civil society can descend into barbarism in which humanity and all moral principles are suppressed. For me, the key quote from Auschwitz survivor Primo Levi, with which our film begins and ends, is "It happened, and therefore it can happen again."
