Exhibition on Screen: Tokyo Stories

Stories of Art from Tokyo traces 400 years of the incredibly dynamic and varied art of the Japanese capital - from the fine woodblock prints of Hokusai and Hiroshige, to pop art posters, contemporary photography, manga, film and new street art - through an exhibition at Oxford's Ashmolean Museum. Director David Bickerstaff uses this successful exhibition as a springboard for a subsequent trip directly to Tokyo and a deeper exploration of the art there. The film thus captures in detail a city that has become one of the most vibrant and interesting cities on the planet over the past 400 years of its immensely rich but often painful history.
