Lucerna is part of Aerokina, a network of partner cinemas. It is a cult and historic community center that occupies an irreplaceable position on the cultural map of Prague and, by extension, the entire Czech Republic. Thanks to its location in an Art Nouveau palace in the heart of the city, it is not only a premiere and festival cinema, but also hosts a number of gala premieres, large and independent festival screenings, and other events that complement the character of the entire Lucerna Palace as a large, multi-genre cultural institution. But you will see more than just classic films here. Through live broadcasts and recordings, we bring you the best of opera, ballet, theater, and concert stages from around the world.
The Lucerna cinema's programming focuses on both the general public and more demanding audiences. This is reflected not only in the careful selection of titles, but also in the holding of a number of film festivals and the organization of various premieres, events, and more.
Our cinema has two halls. The Great Hall has 453 seats and is equipped with state-of-the-art 4K digital technology, which also allows for 3D projection, Dolby Surround sound equipment in 7.1 format, and is the most visited classic cinema in the Czech Republic. The Small Hall (created in the former private projection hall of Miloš Havel, co-owner of the Lucerna Palace and founder of the Barrandov Studios) was established in 2014. It has a capacity of 51 seats and is equipped with a 2K digital projector with 3D projection, as well as Dolby Surround sound equipment in 7.1 format.
We are happy to welcome your assistance dogs to the cinema. Otherwise, please leave your four-legged friends at home and come to the screening without them.

The Lucerna cinema was opened on 3 December 1909 in the centre of Prague in the palace of the same name, built by the businessman and patron of culture Vácslav Havel between 1907 and 1921. His collaborator was Ing. Stanislav Bechyně, who is mainly the author of the structural design of the multifunctional palace. The space of the current Great Hall was first conceived as a theatre hall with a rotating auditorium, but less than a year later it was rebuilt for its present purposes.
Lucerna holds two unique "firsts" in the field of ‘cinema’ culture and practice. Firstly, it is one of the most visited classical biographies in the Czech Republic and the oldest still functioning cinema in the country. From a historical point of view, it is also worth noting that in 1929 Lucerna was the very first biograph in Prague to show sound films. The first one was the American musical "Show Boat" from the same year.
For its 105th anniversary in 2013, Lucerna cinema opened its second cinema hall to the public - Small Hall. It was originally used as a private screening room for Miloš Havel, the co-owner of the palace, where he screened films of his production company Lucernafilm, which closed in 1949. After the February 1948 Czechoslovak coup d'état, the hall was closed down and its premises were converted into offices, warehouses or classrooms.
In its more than a century-long history, the prestigious cinema, which is an integral part and gem of the Lucerna Palace, has screened tens of thousands of film titles, seated millions of spectators and hosted hundreds of stars of Czech and international cinema at the gala premieres of their titles and achievements.
The impressive and representative Great Hall, the intimate Small Hall, and other spaces in the cinema offer a wide range of possibilities for use. In addition to regular film screenings, events, and festivals, the Lucerna cinema space is highly adaptable and can function as a multifunctional cultural center. Both the projection equipment and the cinema facilities can be used for rentals. At Lucerna, we can organize events such as lectures, conferences, shows, festivals, award ceremonies, and more.
The Big Hall has a capacity of 453 seats, the Small Hall has 51 seats. The café can comfortably accommodate around 160 seated visitors. However, the generous space of the cinema offers facilities for many more people and high adaptability to a whole range of events, pop ups, events, concerts and more.
