Family Happiness

Director: Sara Broos

Swedish film maker Sara Kroos delves deep within herself, looking for traces of her own identity, which seem to have slipped through her fingers. Equally incomprehensible is her relationship with her mother, the painter Karin. Together they travel to the Lithuanian coast, but physical proximity only deepens their silence, as they slowly descend into the causes of their pain and an endless search for the unknown. Their own work and the ability to listen in spite of the silence become their guides. This visually and musically extraordinary documentary reveals the female soul in its rawness, complexity and beauty. It is a gentle caress that creates ripples across the water.
