Fifteen-year-old Laura longs to become a ballerina. She’s ready to sacrifice everything for this dream, and her determination is unwavering. Apart from her exhausting studies at the top ballet academy, she is facing one more struggle – with her own gender identity. The hormonal treatment she’s been undergoing for several years isn’t fast enough in her opinion. The young girl desperately wants the operation that she believes will change her life. But her body, formed by her harsh professional sporting career, isn’t ready for that yet. Laura’s loved ones, and especially her father, do their best to support her, but despite all their efforts, nobody can fully empathise with the emotions, insecurities and yearnings raging in her and make the situation easier on her. Lukas Dhont’s sensitive and precisely directed film won the Caméra d'Or at this year's Cannes.
