In a forgotten region on the Italian border, the leaves of mighty trees rustle. An old carpenter meets a young woman selling chestnuts, and for a moment he sees the future as vividly as his distant past. In the mid-20th century, in a decaying chestnut forest on the Italian-Slovene border, the setting sun reminds the stingy, old carpenter Mario of his late wife. While reflecting on his life, he meets the lonely, young chestnut seller Marta, who dreams of an easier life across the ocean. Gregor Božič captures their encounter in the god-forsaken landscape with a tremendous sensibility for natural beauty. Joy and sadness are accompanied by a captivating soundtrack.
