The Royal Ballet: Like water for Chocolate

A modern Mexican classic of magical realism provides the backdrop for choreographer Christopher Wheeldon's new work. As with his previous productions for the Royal Ballet, Alice in Wonderland and The Winter's Tale, he collaborated with composer Joby Talbot and designer Bob Crowley. The ballet is inspired by Laura Esquivel's novel - a gripping family saga of love full of obstacles. In this co-production with American Ballet Theatre, Mexican conductor Alondra de la Parra also serves as musical consultant for Talbot's new score. Wheeldon worked closely directly with the book's author to transform her richly layered story into an entertaining and engaging new ballet. Show more
