Director: Todd Field  •  Cast: Cate Blanchett, Noémie Merlant, Mark Strong, Sydney Lemmon, Julian Glover, Nina Hoss, Sophie Kauer, Allan Corduner, Sam Douglas, Lucie Pohl

Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett shines as Lydia Tara, one of the world's most famous conductors. The film is an impressive study of a man who discovers that running a huge orchestra can paradoxically be much easier than running his own life.

Conductor Lydia Tarr is at an absolute creative peak. In her seventh year conducting a prestigious German orchestra, she is preparing the publication of a book and the performance of Mahler's Fifth Symphony, which is to be the highlight of the musical season. Lydia comes across as confident, self-assured, dominant and powerful. But beneath this seemingly solid mask is a normal person, with fears, insecurities, desires and needs. While with the conductor's baton in hand, Lydia is confident in every decision she makes, when she leaves the orchestra pit she often loses her footing. Sometimes only slightly, sometimes quite fatally.
