Earthlings want to leave a damaged planet. Aniara is one of many spaceships that transport them to new life on Mars. There is an optimistic mood, the conditions on board are great. Soon after the start, however, Aniara is deviated from the course and has to face detours that will last for years. The disturbing and very believable sci-fi film found inspiration in the Nobel Prize-winning poem "Aniara" by Harry Martinson.
