My Neighbor Totoro

My Neighbor Totoro

2DCSU
Director:MIYAZAKI Hayao
Premiere:9. December 2021
Length:86 minutes
Genre:Animated

Director: MIYAZAKI Hayao

You can hardly find anyone in Japan who does not know the film. Several generations have grown up watching it, and the Totoro character has earned popularity the world over. The film is cute and funny, yet it also shows the touching separation of children from their parents. Satsuki, a girl of eight years of age and her younger sister Mai with their parents move to the countryside to a crumbling old house. The mum is in hospital for a long time and the dad has to take care of everything, the house and the garden. As a result, the girls have a lot of time to explore the surroundings of their house where – much to their surprise – they discover magical beings. The biggest one is the good-natured forest spirit, Totoro, with whom they experience their very first adventure. Things take a dramatic turn when Mai is lost and everybody sets out to search for her. The worlds of people and magical beings intersect only slightly and the magic is in nature itself. The author is Hayao Miyazaki, the one and inimitable master of animation, and as with all films by the Ghibli studio, Joe Hisayashi provided the soundtrack to Totoro.
